Started collaboration to improve the efficiency of the
construction value chain utilizing BIM

The Concrete Products and Aggregate Co., Ltd. (CPAC)/ Managing Director：Mr. Nantapong Chantrakul, EPCO Co.,Ltd (EPCO)/ Group CEO : Mr. Yoshiyuki Iwasaki, and Mitsui & Co.,(Thailand) Ltd. (Mitsui Thailand) /President and CEP : Mr. Reiji Fujita signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on collaboration for improvement of efficiency for construction value chain utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) in Thailand.

Now, the three companies will jointly proceed digital transformation and conduct proof of concept in the building field using BIM, and improve the efficiency of the entire construction value chain from building design to prefabrication of materials, construction work, logistics, and after-sales maintenance.

Currently, the population of middle class and the wealthy class are increasing, especially in emerging countries such as Asia, where there is remarkable economic growth, and people are starting to seek a more comfortable and secure home. At the same time, with the growth in housing demand, there is a need for high-value-added building operations that realize not only efficiency and labor saving but also efficiency optimization of the entire building process with consideration of the environment. In addition, based on Thailand 4.0 led by the Thai government, smart city initiatives have begun to progress using energy saving and renewable energy utilizing IT.

SCG Cement-Building Materials Co., Ltd (Siam Cement Group: Cement-Building Materials, SCG-CBM), a subsidiary of Siam Cement Group (SCG), is the largest Thai company who plays a key role in cement and building materials markets of Thailand as its main business. As a group company, CPAC covers a wide range of business fields, mainly cement and concrete products, such as pre-casted concrete products used in building structures. CPAC will promote digital transformation through this collaboration, will seek new business opportunities in the construction sector, and seek new business opportunities related to construction technologies such as BIM and pre-fabrication.

EPCO has strengths in total management of the entire construction value chain utilizing IT, and is engaged in building design, equipment design for piping and electrical systems, and energy-saving design such as solar panels with BIM. And, it also automatically generates processing information for building materials pre-fabrication, and handles not only prefabrication of materials but also delivery management to construction site, linked to the factories of the building material manufacturers, supporting the prefabrication with digital solutions. In addition, EPCO operates 24/7 call center services for maintenance utilizing the design database, and contributes people to improve the living environment.

Mitsui Thailand has been engaged in trading business of various products in Thailand and other countries around the world. With SCG-CBM, it has had strategic partnership for over 100 years, and creates new businesses related to building materials solutions and energy-saving solutions.

In order to create a new digital transformation business related to the building field in Thailand, the three companies will enter into a prefabrication technology for building work by utilizing BIM in such market, and promote the digitalizing of building materials, by creating platform that covers entire construction supply chain.

In addition, we plan to jointly conduct research and pilot projects to investigate the feasibility of new businesses to realize energy conservation and smart cities, which contributes to Thai government and to improving the lives of the Thai people. In order to achieve this goal, CPAC, Epco, and Mitsui Thai will deepen this collaboration.
